SUS101: Saving paper in courses 

The Sustainability Office has developed a new program for all U of T instructors eager to lighten their paper load.

UPDATE: We are currently retooling our SUS101 program and will not be holding SUS101 workshops in the near future. However, feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.

Each year at U of T, an estimated 10 million sheets of paper are used in the printing of lecture slides, tests, assignments, and other course materials in 1st and 2nd year courses alone.  Learn more about how paper is used in UofT courses.

Program

Interested instructors are invited to attend a 1 hour workshop, where we will discuss paper reduction practices and technologies.

Following the workshop, the Office will:

    • assist in calculating paper savings in your course(s)
    • assist in monitoring student and TA experiences
    • compile all results and your feedback into a guide for U of T instructors


Workshop Content

Both individuals experienced in these techniques and those interested in learning more are welcome to attend. Workshop participants can expect to gain:

    • Opportunities to discuss challenges and successes
    • Practical tips and tools to make paper saving easier for you, your students, and your TAs, such as, 
      • Advice for managing and marking electronic submissions
      • Best practices for saving paper associated with tests, quizzes, and online lecture slides 
      • Sample text to cut & paste into your syllabus and assignment descriptions 
      • Materials to assist students in efficient printing and printing on campus
