CECCS Student Leadership
Subcommittee
The Student Leadership Subcommittee (SLS), a part of the President’s Advisory Committee on the Environment, Climate Change, and Sustainability (CECCS), supports greater student involvement in the committee and across university-wide sustainability initiatives. The members drive student-led campaigns and community events aligned with the broader CECCS mandate.
Members of this subcommittee are also collaborating on the development of the Leader tier of our Sustainability Pathways Program and serve on the Campus as Living Lab working group.
Learn more about SLS through our information flyer (PDF).
CECCS Student-led Initiatives
Paper Towel Reduction Pilot
In the second half of 2025 at the St. George campus, the subcommittee collaborated with the caretaking team in Facilities & Services to no longer restock paper towels in select washrooms with hand dryers as a carbon reduction opportunity. The pilot has since concluded and a review is underway.
Biodegradable Soap Awareness
U of T uses Ecologo certified biodegradable hand soaps in washrooms across its campuses. The subcommittee is promoting this sustainable practice among the university community and has created an information page about the benefits.
Improving Waste Diversion/Recycling in Student Residences
The subcommittee is supporting efforts to reduce waste at several student residences through waste audits, a review of related Campus as a Living Lab projects and the development of a best practices guide for St. George campus residences. They are also running a competition to encourage adoption of the guide.
